As the crisis of democracy deepens and OWON launches various cultural projects to draw attention to its mission of democracy renewal, our movement will grow exponentially. In anticipation of this, OWON has set its sights on ‘World Democracy Day’ on the 15th September 2026, to organise a major cultural event across the world.
We are in conversation with international cultural leaders, mass student networks and artists to develop a worldwide flourishing of community engagements through cultural activities, designed to celebrate our message of democratic renewal. These events will involve both grassroots and well-established actors and organisations, scaling at both local community, national and international levels.
The outcomes of this global shared moment of celebrating the hope for democratic renewal will be measured by aggregating the output from the thousands of creative communal projects on that day. In addition, we aim to add millions of names to a petition calling for permanent Global Citizen Assemblies. We seek worldwide media coverage and statements from political leaders relaying their hopes for the support for these new systems.
At its heart, this event will promote an optimistic message of human connectivity, by encouraging cross cultural discussions and expressions of what democracy can look like.
